ITBS

Jr. High students will soon be participating in Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.  It is important for students to do their best on these test.  To insure this, make sure your student goes to bed at an appropriate time and gets lots of sleep.  Also, make sure they eat a healthy well balanced breakfast before coming to school.

School Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be Thursday, October 22, in the moring.  You either need to bring your old pictures to give to the photographer or a picture envelope with money. There are extra envelopes in the office if you need one.  Remember, everyone needs to get their picture taken to be used in the yearbook.

Beat it Buzz!

8th Grade football players recently ended their season with home games against Cresco.  Following the games, players, coaches, managers, and parents from both W-SR and Cresco gathered for a meal in the high school cafeteria.  The Go-Hawks wanted to recognize and show their compassion for a Cresco player, Andrew “Buzz” Miller, who is battling cancer.  Players wore “Beat it Buzz” t-shirts and presented the Cresco team with a banner for Buzz signed by the Go-Hawks along with a basketball signed by UNI players.  A big thanks to athletic director Kevin Rohne for taking care of meal arrangements and coving the expense through athletic funds.

Dads and Doughnuts

7th grade: Wednesday, October 21st
8th grade: Wednesday, October 28

Junior High teachers have always understood the importance of building strong relationships with their students.  To recognize and show appreciation for the relationships that are important to our students outside school we would like to invite all of the 7th grade Dads (grandpa, uncles, mentors, or even Mom is welcome if Dad can’t com) to join us on Wednesday, October 21 from 8:00-8:45am fro Dads and Doughnuts.  On Wednesday, the 28th, our 8th grade dads will join us for Dads and Doughnuts day.  We’ll also be having a Moms and Muffins morning later in the year.  Doughnuts and juice will be provided.  Students will take their dads to meet their homeroom teacher and then dads will join the class in a quick game of Pictionary.  Plan to arrive at 8am and stay as long as you can.  If you have questions, contact the school guidance office.

Illness in Schools

Now that the flu season is in full swing, we would just like remind everyone of a few items.  First off, please help us fight the spread of the flu, not only at school, but also at home.  Tell your students to cover their cough and sneeze with their elbow and not their hands.  Did you know that an uncovered sneeze can expel thousands of droplets at a speed of  roughly 100 mph, with a range of up to 5 feet?  Also, make sure to remind them to wash their hands with soap and hot water several times throughout the day.  Also, tell them not to tough their eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands.  This is one way the flu virus and be spread.  You may want to give your students a bottle of hand sanitizer to keep in their locker to be used during they day, especially before lunch.  The CDC also has some helpful hint on the following website http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/preventing.htm .

Also, if your child is going to miss school due to illness, please remember to call and let the Jr. High office know before 9am.  If we do not hear from you, you will probably be getting a call from the office asking where your student is.

Thanks for the help and we hope everyone can stay away from the flu bug
